One of the best parts of summer is being able to enjoy sweet treats that not only satisfy our cravings but also help us cool off. What better way to fulfill both of those things than with ice cream? Thankfully Peterborough and the area around have you covered, especially if you like sprinkles on your sundae.
If you’ve been in the Monadnock Region but never gone to Kimball Farm, we hope this blog post sways you towards the seasonal ice cream shack and restaurant located 10 minutes from the Jack Daniels Inn in Jaffrey. This staple of the area has been operating for 80 years to provide its customers with not only delicious scoops of handmade ice cream, but a variety of food such as fried fish, shrimp, burgers and more. Order your food or ice cream at the window and then either head inside or enjoy the ample picnic tables around the property. My mom is a huge fan of their hot fudge sundaes, while I myself love their peanut butter chocolate chip ice cream. I enjoyed some lunch there before getting my pup a doggy ice cream, but he sure did like his treat. If you’re itching to do some shopping, Kimball Farm also has a gift shop on site with loads of neat things for everyone.
Hanging out in Peterborough is also a rewarding option, thanks to two great places to stop by and get some ice cream. A few minutes from downtown Peterborough means Charlie’s Old Tyme Creamery. An ice cream shack through and through, Charlie’s has some amazing flavors of ice cream from a local creamery as well as soft serve, smoothies, hot dogs and other treats. Their cute shack is even outfitted with lots of colorful picnic tables for you to sit and enjoy. I’m a huge maple fan, so when I got a sample of their maple walnut flavor I knew I had to have it – and on a waffle cone, of course! If you’re more a fan of the Italian variant, Twelve Pine offers seasonal flavors of gelato for most of the summer and part of fall. We’ve talked about Ava Marie Chocolates before, but during the summer their ice cream menu is worth a trip on its own. A window outside facing the street in downtown Peterborough makes it easy to get some ice cream to go, but then you’d miss all the other goodies inside the shop. They even have two plant-based ice cream flavors for those who don’t eat dairy. It’s safe to say if you walk inside of Ava Marie’s, you’re bound to leave with something good.
With all these options, it’s safe to say the summer is going to be very sweet.
