Berry picking is always a fun summer pastime which whole family can enjoy themselves. Earlier in the season we mentioned places to pick strawberries in a previous blog post, but now blueberries are ripe! Whether it’s for baking, eating or canning, picking your own berries is one of the many ways to make summer memories. If you’re looking to get hands on, There are local places below where you can pick your own!
We wrote a blog post about Monadnock Berries here a few years ago, who are a regional favorite for pick your own. Under the view of Mount Monadnock in Troy, customers can enjoy fresh berries off the bush ripe and ready for picking. A few changes are in place to make sure things are safe and clean for all visitors, such as wearing a mask inside the farm stand and making sure the fields aren’t overcrowded, so that each customer can pick in confidence.
Located in Mason, Barrett Hill Farm offers a quiet spot to pick blueberries from tons of available bushes. Pick a pint or an even bigger bounty using the cartons available and enjoy fresh and perfectly sweet berries! Afterwards, swing into the farm stand to peruse more local produce. Open 8am-6pm, remember to bring your mask to wear while visiting!
Smiths Blueberries is open 7 days a week for blueberry picking season and is only 15 minutes away from Peterborough in New Ipswich. With ample blueberries available to pick, folks over at Smiths Blueberries are also taking many precautions to make sure every customer feels safe while picking. Owner Lorraine shared with us that they even have after hours picking they schedule for some of their high-risk customers to come so that the field is all theirs to pick without any worry. Additionally offering drive up pick up of pre-picked blueberries to a sanitization station for customers to use, Lorraine and the team at Smiths Blueberries have made sure everyone can still enjoy fresh picked blueberries this year!
For a more ‘wild’ blueberry picking experience, head over to Pitcher Mountain in Stoddard. Taking the trail up to the fire tower will bring you to the winding paths that are lined with blueberry bushes you can pick while you take in nature, or you can hop in your car and drive the 2 mile access road to the expansive Hubbard Hill picking area. The Gates are open until 8pm, which means a perfect evening picnic spot!
