Summer in the Monadnock Region – Imagine: soft grass tickling your legs as you stretch out on your picnic blanket and your soul fills with the swell of classical, folk, rock, choral (pick your favorite) music as you sip your (insert favorite beverage here)!
Of course there are always lots of outdoor activities to enjoy during the summer, but did you know there are also plenty of music series and events as well? Grab your gear, pack some food and enjoy getting out in person again!
Peterborough Folk Music is back in swing with their summer series as they celebrate their 25th anniversary, with a great lineup of musicians coming to the region! Their concerts will take place indoors at a venue in Harrisville, the folks at PFM have gone above and beyond to provide their loved concerts as safely as possible. ElectricEarth Concerts offer all kinds of listening opportunities with their summer lineup: Opening the season June 17 with a video event, then moving to in-person with two types of tickets to choose from where you can either bring a blanket or a chair to sit outside and enjoy the concert, or socially distanced indoors with the musicians. Monadnock Music’s summer lineup is a great way to enjoy an outdoor concert in various beautiful locations such as Cathedral of the Pines, historic Hancock, and more. Last year Northlands provided a drive-in live music experience over the summer. This year they’re back, and instead of spending the concert in your car you can experience a true live outdoor concert at ease with how they’ve organized their summer series with social distancing at the forefront of their concerts. A special at home event: Every August, The MacDowell Colony hosts their Medal Day to honor a creative member as well as open up their studios for folks to visit and learn about the artists there. This year however they are doing things a little differently. The 2021 recipient of the Edward MacDowell Medal is Rosanne Cash. MacDowell will be airing their Medal Day ceremony, including a performance by Ms. Cash, interviews and more, on PBS for folks to enjoy! Many of our small communities offer ongoing concert series in their downtown. Peterborough offers Music in Depot Park, The Nelson and Temple Town Bands play throughout the region, and many a summer eve will be spent on a classic town green listening to music swell from the gazebo.
